Two kinds of CaO clinkers, with low density of 70 % and high density of 95 %, were carbonated at 500~800°C in CO2 atmosphere. The low-density sample was carbonated both on the exterior surface and surrounding of the pores, with each CaO grain enclosed by a layer of CaCO3 film, whereas the high-density sample was only carbonated on the exterior surface. Hydration test showed that the carbonated sample of low density was easily broken due to the weak combination among the carbonated grains in spite the hydration was retarded. For the high-density sample, the hydration resistance was improved significantly after treatment.
