TiO2 is widely recognized as a photocatalysis material. One of the synthesis method of TiO2 is using ion exchange reaction of layer-structured titanates. K2Ti4O9, one of the layer-structured titanates, is easy to hydrolyze, so it is likely that the ion exchange reaction proceed easily. It was selected as a starting material. We investigated the ion exchange capability using several method. We found that the ion exchange reaction depended on H+ ion concentration, but not largely depend on H+ source. We also found that the ion exchange reaction might be influenced by often factors. The diffusion process of water may contribute significantly to the ion exchange process. From the above described results, we inferred the important factors affecting the ion exchange reaction between potassium ion in the layer-structured titanates and hydronium ion.
