Layered basic zinc acetate (LBZA; Zn5(OH)8(CH3COO)22H2O) can be classified into "layered single-metal hydroxide", which is analogous to well-known layered double hydroxides (LDHs). We fabricated LBZA films on substrates through chemical bath deposition and examined their intercalation properties. It was found that neutral ethylene glycol molecules could be inserted between zinc hydroxide layers. We then show potential use of LBZA as organic-inorganic hybrid materials. Thermal decomposition of hybrids to nanostructured zinc oxide is also discussed.
