Bismuth titanate (Bi3Ti4O12, BiT) based composites containing silver particles are prepared by a solution chemical process. X-ray diffraction results indicate silver dispersoid is compatible with BiT matrix. SEM observations reveal fine silver particles are dispersed at the grain-boundary region and in the larger BiT platelike grains. The dielectric properties are enhanced by incorporating silver particles. The dielectric constant of BiT/25vol.%Ag composite is ~ 10 times higher than that of pure BiT. Additionally, the dielectric losses are significantly reduced with the addition of silver particles, and the values of BiT/Ag composites are lower than 0.5%. The dielectric relaxation in BiT/Ag composites is also investigated.
