Ni or NiO nanoparticles about 10~100 nm in grain size were uniformly precipitated on Ti-C-N (TiN, TiC and TiCN) powder by rotary chemical vapor deposition (RCVD). The NiO coated on Ti-C-N powder was reduced to Ni during SPS. The relative density, hardness and fracture toughness of Ni precipitated Ti-C-N composite was much higher than pure Ti-C-N and Ni mixed Ti-C-N powder.
