Abstract

Learning endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) techniques requires acquiring the skills of experts through repeated practice. However, the time commitment for training is a significant issue that needs to be addressed, especially when trying to balance academic activities and family life. In this study, two trainees and one doctor from the United States utilized the G-master model for practical training in ESD. The completion rate within 30 minutes, without assistance, was 40% (2/5), whereas all the cases with traction assistance (5/5) were completed by trainees only. The use of traction had a positive effect, reducing resection time and improving operability. Notably, an ESD-inexperienced physician successfully performed clinical ESD immediately after the training with G-master. By incorporating a traction aid for G-master, trainees can learn the technique in a shorter period of time, allowing them to allocate more time to other tasks. This practical training approach is also applicable to foreign physicians, enhancing the ability of our Japanese staff to communicate and teach in English. Overall, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of using the G-master model with traction assistance for efficient ESD training, which can help improve training efficiency and maintain a better work-life balance.
