An 18-year-old Japanese man with a 10-year history of recurrent epigastralgia was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis 5 years earlier. He developed symptoms of pancreatitis during a stay in Canada 9 months prior to presentation and received endoscopic treatment and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) . The pain persisted and he was eventually admitted to our hospital. CT findings showed multiple pancreatic stones, 3 to 5 mm in diameter, located in the head and body of the pancreas. Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) findings showed stenosis of the main pancreatic duct in the body of the pancreas. We tried to remove the pancreatic stones by endoscopic treatment and ESWL. However, removal was difficult so we placed a 10-Fr. pancreatic stent to facilitate pancreatic drainage. Endoscopic treatment was helpful in this patient with juvenile chronic pancreatitis ; however, we think that careful long-term follow-up is also needed.
