Abstract
A case of inflammatory polyp in the cecum a showing massive bleeding is presented.
A 26-year-old man was admitted to our hospital in April 1992, because of hypovolemic shock caused by sudden massive anal bleeding. A colonoscopic examination revealed a villous tumor in the cecum, which showed a massive bleeding, and the bleeding was ceased by the endoscopic electrocoagulation. Two weeks later, the second colonoscopic examination was done for endoscopic polypectomy, and when a suture at the base of the tumor was found, which was considered to be ascribed to the appendectomy performed in August 1991. Pathological findings of the specimen were the inflammatory change mainly consisting of lymphocyte and plasma cell infiltration. The superior mesenteric arteriography did not reveal any other lesion that was considered to be a cause of the present bleeding.
This is a rare case who showed a massive bleeding from an inflammatory polyp which is considered to have developed reactively on the operative suture. The patient has been free of any anal bleeding after the first electrocoagulation.
