The Japanese version of the short form of the UPPS-P Impulsive Behavior Scale (SUPPS-P-J) was developed to measure multidimensional impulsivity, including urgency, emotion-driven dispositions to rash action. However, the validity of the measure has been confirmed only among university student samples; thus, it remains unclear whether the measure can be applied to the general adult population. The present study aimed to test the validity of the SUPPS-P-J in an adult sample. Participants (N=428; 221 females and 207 males, Mage=43.3, SD=8.91) responded to the scales measuring Dark Triad, risk-taking behaviors, depression and mania symptoms, general anxiety, grit, self-control, Big Five personality traits, as well as SUPPS-P-J. The results showed factorial and criterion-related validities. Although different associations were observed from hypotheses, the SUPPS-P-J indicated sufficient validity in the general population. We discuss the limitations and future directions of this line of research.
