Abstract

This study examines the relationship between fantasy proneness (FP) and Big Five personality traits. In total, 582 Japanese university students completed online questionnaires. The results showed that FP was associated with high neuroticism, openness to experience, and low conscientiousness. Regarding the relationship between FP and personality prototypes (PPs), hierarchical cluster analyses and a one-way ANOVA showed no significant differences in FP between clusters; however, in one FP subscale “unusual experiences,” “resilience” had significantly higher scores than “not identifiable.” Our results are generally consistent with previous research findings on FP and provide new insights.
