A high-speed computational algorithm, similar to the fast Fourier Transform algorithm which performs the Hadamard Transformation is applied to the picture processing.
The boundary-line of human face is detected by the use of a linear filter in the Hadamard domain, with considerable success.
Since the computations of the Hadamard Transform can be performed only additions and subtractions of real number, the computing speed is higher than the case of the complex Fourier Transform. For a 128 by 128 points scene, the Fourier Transform and inverse can be computed 140 seconds and the Hadamard Transform in 63 seconds on the FACOM 230-60 digital computer.
