The pH dependence of physical retardance of the 16 IAG gelatins was measured with the modified PAGI method. These gelatins were classified into four groups ac-cording to their pH dependence of physical retardance; 1) highly restraining over a wide pH range from 3 to 10, 2) highly restraining in acidic pH range from 3 to 6, 3) highly restraining in a narrow alkaline pH range from 9 to 10, 4) a little restraining only in acidic pH. The pH dependence of physical retardance of gelatins seems to depend not only on gelatin itself but also on the contents or ratio of impure substances in gelatins. The effects of nucleic acids and thiosulfate on the pH dependence of physical retardance of gelatins were tested.
