Characteristics of the three radiometric correction algorithms, i.e., cosn θ correction, Fourier filtering, and polynomial approximation were studied. A variety of radiometric distortion observed in aerial photographys, e.g., relative illumination decrease in the edge of the image due to cos4 law and/or vignetting, reflection or scattering in the camera body, sun spot, etc. can be classified into the following three categories 1) additive radiometric distortion, 2) multiplicative radiometric distortion, 3) both of 1) and 2).
In this report, the principles and characteristics of the above three radiometric correction algorithms were clarified according to the three radiometric distortion categories. Furthermore, simulation of radiometric corrections were carried out to examine correction accuracies and processing times of each algorithms.
As a result, the best correction algorithm for conditions of radiometric distortion were decided.
