Our recent studies on the chemistry of DIR (Development Inhibitor Releasing) couplers are reviewed. One of them is concerned with a DIR coupler whose inhibitor is slowly hydrolyzed in development solution after being splitted off from the coupler. Another is concerned with a coupler which releases a development inhibitor releaser. They both provide good color image qualities such as sharpness and color reproducibility.
