Adoption of scanning imaging implies that the function of image reconstruction be separated from that of image capture, providing a higher degree of freedom in image recording system designing. Among various hardcopy output technologies, those based on scanning light exposure are characterized by a potential of high image quality. The ever-increasing demand of better quality hardcopy images essentially makes output via scanning exposure more attractive and significant. This paper deals with recent progresses of light-sensitive materials for scanning imaging, market needs for and essential nroblems inherent to such imaging.
