This paper presents our design concepts of our original extensible-boom-based optics on a 5kg satellite “PRISM” which stands for “Pico-satellite for Remote-sensing and Innovative Space Missions”. The boom has been designed especially for a telescope, so it is very different from any conventional structure. The handheld satellite will be the first test bed of the extensible boom and will obtain Earth images with 30 meter resolution or better when this boom works well in orbit, with its compact spacecraft bus, which is 18cm×18cm×40cm body. The satellite will be launched 2008.
