Abstract
We have been studying about cytochemical studies, especialy nucleic acids synthesis and immunoglobulin synthesis, in human blood lymphocytes. Some results of these studies had been reported in various papers. This paper is one of the same series. In this investigation, the clinical evaluation of RNA synthesis of lymphocytes in various diseases (autoimmune, hematological, hepatic, infectious, and other diseases) stimulated with PHA was discussed. The results are as follows: In autoimmune diseases, RNA synthesis of lymphocytes was markedly depressed, especially in systemic lupus erythematosus. But, in remmission, it was recovered almost to normal range. In complete form of Behcet's syndrome RNA synthesis was depressed, but not in incomplete form. In sarcoidosis, all cases indicated depressed RNA synthesis, but, in remission, it was recovered. At severe stage of sarcoidosis, lymphocytes stimulated with PPD indicated poor RNA synthesis, but at remission stage, it was recovered, and these experimental evidences were parallel with clinical tuberculin reactions. In infectious mononucleosis, RNA synthesis of lymphocytes stimulated with PHA was suppressed completely. In acute hepatitis and hepatic cirrhosis, RNA synthesis of lymphocytes stimulated with PHA was suppressed markedly, although, in chronic hepatitis, it was stimulated strongly. In other diseases with bacterial infection, it was markedly stimulated in all cases.
