These experiments were studied on metabolic changes of dogs which were nephrectomized on both sides. The total protein, N.P.N., mucoprotein, pyruvic acid, blood sugar, ammonia, sodium, and potassium were sometimes estimated after the operation to death.
Mean survival period of these operated dogs was five days, and in this course the author could find the stage of uremia, butit was supposed to be short 3-12 hours.
The metabolic changes during this period were evident in the increase of N.P.N., mucoprotein, blood sugar, ammonia and potassium. From these results the author concluded : in addition to the disturbance of protein and salt metabolism damage of glycolytic activity was apparently observed, especially in uremic coma.
The author administered androgenic hormone and cortisone separately and together, with expectation that the androgenic hormone would promote the catabolism of protein, and cortisone would be a remedy for the chronic shock condition of the operated dogs. In the group to Which androgenic hormone was administered the suppression of ammonia increasing and improvement in the clinical finding were noted, and in the group to which cortisone was administered glycolytic ability became nomal. In the group to which these two drugs were used both characteristics were evident.
