Abstract

Based on the results of our experiments on the uncanny valley and animacy perception, we examine the issue of liking and even trusting artifacts (i.e., robots or agents). Specifically, we argue that for typically developed individuals, it is preferable to present artifacts that are moderately human-like in terms of appearance, while for individuals with Asperger's spectrum syndrome, it is preferable to present artifacts that are artifact-like in appearance, in terms of their liking for artifacts.
