Cancer patients and their families use social media for information gathering and support network development. However, harmful phenomena such as cyber incivility (problematic online behaviour) are also prevalent. This study developed a social media platform called “Episode Bank,” which focuses on mitigating cyber incivility. Emphasising privacy protection and suppression of inflammatory content, it adopts a topic-based model rather than a communication-centered one. The development process employed co-design methods, allowing users to engage directly in designing the user interface. A distinctive feature of this system is its operational mechanism for research purposes, modelled after biobank systems that store biological materials and medical information for research. The aim is to accumulate episodes from stakeholders, eventually functioning as a knowledge database. An initial evaluation of the system, using data collected until January 2024, assessed its effectiveness and impact on users.
