The rotational intensity distributions of CO, N2 and N2+ band-spectra excited in the electrodeless ring discharge with a frequency of 54.6 megacycles per second have been studied, the third order emission spectra due to a 21-foot concave grating being used.
The experimental results had led us to the following conclusions.
(1) The characteristic behaviour of the rotational temperature in electrodeless ring discharge remains unchanged even in the case of ultra-short wave.
(2) The rotational energies of any kind of molecules studied are in a Boltzmann distribution.
(3) The rotational temperatures of CO and N2 were about 600°K and very close to the readings of an air thermometer.
(4) While that of N2+ ions was 800°K.
(5) The nuclear spin quantum number of nitrogen was confirmed to be 1 again
