BPO4 catalysts were prepared under different preparation conditions from an equimolar mixture of boric acid and phosphoric acid, and the activity was investigated for the oligomerization of light olefins. It was found that a BPO4 catalyst which was prepared by mixing those reagents at 0°C in a rotary evaporator, followed by warming the resulting viscous liquid at around 40°C under controlled pressure (first normal, then reduced pressure) for 1-9h, showed much higher activity than conventional BPO4 catalysts.
