Importance of low-temperature materials synthesis has been recognized from the viewpoint of energy saving and environmental protection. This paper presents a controlled low-temperature synthesis route for hydroxyapatite (HAp) from supersaturated simulated body fluid (1.5 SBF) in the presence of biomimetic Langmuir monolayers. Depending on the species of functional headgroups of the monolayers, HAp crystals were grown in different manners from supersaturated SBF at the functionalized interfaces.
