Otsu city locates between Lake Biwa and mountains. We have 24 km long beautiful shore and reed fields here and there. But recently they are having been destoryed by urbanization.
Nowadays, reed fields remain only 18.5 ha in the western part of the-lake, but they are well grown, so that we enjoy their natural beauty.
Reed campaign, we name it “Lake shore Renaissance”, is planned to keep the water quality of the lake, to respect the lives, and to promote the civic movement and consciousness as symbolic event. It is carried out by citizen, enterprise and administration.
This campaign has spread in the whole city, and has become the big event in spring.
