Abstract
This paper focussed on the effect of the cognitive map based on the five senses with the analysis of the project named “The Five Senses Map of Kumano Ancient Road” as the case. The cognitive map based on the five senses is one kind of the method of walking events that the participants were divided into the five groups, each group focussed on the sense of the sight (Land Scape), the sense of hearing (Sound Scape), the sense of touch (Body Scape), the sense of smell (Smell Scape) and the senses of taste (Taste Scape). Watching on the road with each sharp senses lead the participants to find out the new characteristics of the environment.
As a result of the analysis about the information written in the each map, lots of the information were drawn on the map of sound scape. A detailed record was difficult rather than it thought of it, and a problem was conspicuous as for the map of land scape as for the greater part of Kumano Ancient Road went through in a natural environment. As for the map of smell scape, it was found out that the condition of the season was received very much. As for the map of taste, the preparation of careful program was necessary.
The cognitive map based on the five senses that but it is simple as for the device of walking event needs the proper preparation and the idea and production fitted to the walking pace. The specification of the participants' name and the investigation date are essential on the map because the difference of the season change and the each sense of the participants are large. It was found out that providing of the five senses map as the citizen participation program was very effective in sharing of participation consciousness because the sensitivity of the participants to be woven into the completed map.
