The current paper examines the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) within the realm of literary translation, with a focus on its application in intermediary translation and the innovative approach of triangular comparison. AI's entry into the field of translation studies has sparked profound discussions on its impact, ranging from efficiency gains to creative limitations. This research adopts a threefold perspective: In the first perspective, it introduces the concept of triangular comparison, a methodology that leverages AI to compare multiple translations, illuminating nuanced variations and fidelity to the source text. In the second perspective, it scrutinizes the role of AI as an intermediary translator, highlighting its capacity to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps while aiding human translators in preserving the essence of literary works. Finally, this study evaluates the implications of AI utilization in some specific examples of Japanese literature translation into English, French, and Vietnamese. By advancing our understanding of AI's role in literary translation, this research contributes to the ongoing discourse on the future of translation studies and the evolving relationship between human translators and AI technologies.
