Abstract
The objective of this study is to develop a cutting simulation system using FEM in order to select easily the optimum cutting conditions. In the previous report, we developed a new system which can simulate the cutting process with a variety of tool models such as the chip breaker. This developed system is composed of tool model making program, cutting simulation program and GUI which make it easy to simulate the cutting process. The cutting simulations of chip breaker tool, tool with secondary rake face, and tool with flat rake face were done using this system. In this report, orthogonal cutting experiments were done using three types of tool with chip breaker to verify the effectiveness of this system. Chip forming process was observed using high–speed camera and compared with the simulation result.
