Abstract
Oxidative degradation of UHMWPE caused by aging and internal defects has been cited as one of major factors affecting the wear in vivo. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of adding vitamin E as the antioxidation additives on the wear. The wear tests have been conducted on a pin-on-disk machine. Specimens added vitamin E showed small wear factors by reducing of delamination on the wear surface and transferring thick films on the counter face. Vitamin E could suppress oxidization of UHMWPE, which lead to lower wear factor.
