Abstract
Microstructure on a floor can change the frictional property to prevent slip accident under wet environment because the structure release the water between mating surface and decrease the hydrodynamic pressure. However, the effect of rolling friction has not been made clear. This study aims to discuss the structural design of floor with rolling friction. Floor samples that have 1 mm structural height were prepared and the friction against rubber plate was measured while applying mm-size rolling element between them. It was found that the ratio of the diameter of rolling element to the structural height should be designed with care to increase friction. The reason is considered as the rolling motion of the element is interrupted by the structure on the floor surface.
