Abstract
Recently, many researches regarding the detection and suppression of chatter vibration have been studied. Most of them use additional sensors such as acceleration sensors and force sensors. As a result, using these sensors leads to high manufacturing cost and low rigidity of the mechanical structures. The chatter vibrations can be classified into self-excited vibrations and forced vibrations due to their generation mechanism. However, many studies have been focused on only one type of them. To deal with these vibrations respectively, the type of the chatter vibrations need to be identified. In this research, the sensor-less detection system utilizing disturbance observer and the modal identification system of chatter are proposed. The proposed method is applied to the end-milling process to verify its validity.
