Abstract
There is a friction drive technique which uses two modes' structural resonance frequency of vibration element to generate ellipse motion on contact point. However there are no detail reports about degree of freedom or constraints on design or tuning of frequency when resonance motions in two directions are used for the friction drive. The paper investigates experimentally what phenomena occur when two modes resonance frequency of a vibration mechanism are matched and the mechanism is excited in two directions simultaneously. An experimental vibration mechanism which has the same structure in two orthogonal directions are manufactured and driven under some different driving conditions; e.g. frequency, amplitude or phase of sinusoidal excitation. It is found that every driving condition gives influence on vibration status. Amplitude and phase are depend on each other between the two orthogonal directions.
