Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the ultrasonic vibration assisted grinding phenomenon by visualization of stress distribution. The stress distribution on soda-lime glass, caused by diamond electro-deposited wheel with the diameter of 3mm, is visualized by photo-elasticity method. By assuming that the stress distribution is sufficiently stable for one rotation of wheel, the continuously captured movie is reconstructed to 3D stress distribution by Computed Tomography. In this report, the stress distribution which is caused by single abrasive grain was mentioned to clear the chip-generating phenomenon. Furthermore, we demonstrate that effect of wheel vibration was visualized.
