Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a non-contact bearing that has fewer components. Ampere force is used to support a shaft in this research work. Ampere force occurs in the direction that is perpendicular to the direction of an electric current and that of a magnetic field, when the electric current is supplied in the magnetic field. Galinstan that is one of the liquid metals at room temperature was used in order to supply the electric current to the shaft. Therefore, the experimental model was hybrid between a bearing using Ampere force and a hydrodynamic bearing using the Galinstan as a lubricant. This study examined the support of the shaft and the center position of the shaft during rotating by applying the Ampere force.
