I made a brief review study of cycles of seminiferous epithelia and renewal of spermatogonia in several primate species, including great apes. There were obvious differences in the architecture of testicular histology in three great ape species, Gorilla gorilla, Pan troglodytes and Pongo pygmaeus. Spermatogenesis was quite active in chimpanzees but poor in gorillas, while that of orangutans was intermediate. The acrosomic system in the cap phase of spermatids was prominent in orangutans. In gorillas, many Leydig cells were found in the interstitial tissue, but in chimpanzees these cells were not numerous. These differences seem to reflect the male reproductive strategies of each species.
