In this study, the function of a turning process was optimized by the evaluation of electric power consumption during OFF and ON modes, and evaluation by processed dimensions. In the evaluation of electric energy, the SN ratio of OFF and ON modes were used in the analysis with a good reproducibility of gain. After optimization, a high speed and stable processing condition was established which resulted in a significantly high productivity and low cost. It was recognized that the conclusions from a study using test pieces will be universal, and the conclusions can be applied well to other equipment.
