The application of Dohsa-hou to the group of aged persons in the community

Abstract

This study was to give the clinical practice of Dohsa-hou to the persons with aging in the community, and to discuss the effect of Dohsa -hou and the Group practice of Dohsa- hou from the view point of Community Based Rehabilitation. The subjects were 8-26(depends on the session) aged persons (70-85 year-olds) who had some complain of anxiety of bodily health and loneliness (needing a company), but actually could plow the fields for providing for themselves. They were given the Dohsa-hou practice once a month for 6 months to enjoy the daily life and reduce their anxiety of bodily health. Each session was 2 hours. The results were the following reports from the subjects; having the good, relaxed and refreshed feelings, recognizing the bodily stiffness, the difficulty of relaxation and the disappeared bodily pain, and having the good opportunity to see and to talk each others. And also, they reported that they became to be easy to walk the inside and the outside of house, to make the good postures of their own body, and to recognize the change of feelings and the manner of experiences in the daily life. From the above results, it was discussed that Dohsa-hou would be effective methods as a Community Based Rehabilitation for the aged persons in the community.
