Abstract

Mobile phones can have possibility to promote the new way of tourism, and indeed several local governments, such as Iwate Prefecture, Yokosuka City, utilize a mobile application named Ingress for tourism promotion. This paper aims to consider the possibility for the new way of tourism promotion, through a case of Yokosuka City that started a project to use Ingress, by reviewing the city's relevant initiatives and analyzing the number and the area of the Ingress users. The conclusion, highlighting the increasing number of the users and the expanding area of tourism sites that the users have opened, finds the positive results of the action initiated by Yokosuka City.
