Abstract

The purpose of this survey was to grasp both situations and problems of the spatial arrangements which supported walkers experiences of landscape on trails along historical channels. The field works on 23 trails uncovered the following facts. Accessibility of trails was different from each other. It was hard for walkers to grasp the whole features of both channels and land uses. There was no information to help walkers understand relationships between topography and land uses. In order to solve these problems, the trails were to encompass the entire areas of the channels, and the information boards were to be installed at the suitable places to promote walkers understanding of landscape along the channels.
