Abstract

This study discusses the current state and future issues of tourism revival in 37 municipalities of Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture affected by the tsunami disaster by the Great East Japan Earthquake. It clarifies that (1) the speed of tourism revival is slow, (2) almost all municipalities are faced with challenges of tourism revival, (3) the rate of municipalities tackling inbound tourism is 50%. Finally, this study points out the necessity of enrichment of soft measures as well as restoration and development of tourism resources as future issues.
