Abstract

This study clarifies current status and issues of school in the 12 municipalities affected by nuclear disaster in Fukushima after the lift of evacuation orders. It clarifies that (1) elementary schools and junior high schools have been reopened in 10 municipalities where evacuation orders were lifted, (2) the number of students has decreased significantly, (3) the number of students attending schools located in areas where evacuation orders were lifted is less than the number of students attending schools of the evacuation destinations located in other municipalities, and (4) most schools located in areas where evacuation orders were lifted have problems concerning students, teachers, facilities, classes and school events. This study points out that it is important to develop institutional and financial conditions to solve the above problems.
