The land use planning system of Germany is briefly described here, based on the example of Meiningen, a small town in Thueringen. Though the detailed and precise system of land use planning in Germany is often referred in Japan as one of ideal forms of urban planning system, there are few documents which plainly show the whole structure and distribution of jurisdiction about the planning system. This paper aims at showing the structure of land use planning system in Germany with several figures and photos quoted from original planning maps and documents, in order to make readers grasp the general framework.
