Abstract
Micinous cystadenoma, a relatively uncommon disease, is rarely complicated with intestinal intussusception. We recently encountered a patient with mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix intussuscepted into the ascending colon and presenting ileus symptom.
A 69-year-old female with chief complaints of abdominal pain and vomiting underwent emergency operation under the diangosis of ileus. The ileum was found to be intussuscepted into the ascending colon, nearly reaching the transverse colon, with mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix as a lead point.
Mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix complicated with intestinal intussusception is rarely observed; about 10 cases have been reported in Japan. In addition to the case study, a review of the literature is given.
