Abstract
Galactosaminoglycan (E-082) from the culture filtrate of Cordyceps ophioglossoides aggregated the sera from cancer patients. This reaction named E-082 test was applied to the preoperative sera of 61 patients with gastric cancer and simultaneously in 45 of the 61 patients, the serum levels of CEA were measured.
The mena value of E-082 was 615.2 units and the sensitivity was 62.3%. The sensitivities gradually increased from stage I to IV showing 41.1%, 62.5%, and 77.8%, respectively. Histologically, there was no difference in positive rate between differentiated and undifferentiated types. On the other hand, CEA-positive rate in the 45 patients wa 33.3%, a ignificantly superior sensitivity of E-082 reaction to CEA being shown in preoperative gastric cancers. Statistically there was no correlation between E-082 and CEA. It took about one hour to get the results from the E-082 test.
In conclusion, when we use the E-082 test, of which results can be obtained in a short time with superior sensitivity, in addition to an other tumor marker, it may facilitate to detect gastric cancers in the early stages.
