Abstract
A 54-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of an upper abdominal tumor. The tumor, which was hemispheric and elastic soft with the size of an egg, was first suspected to be a lipoma of the abdominal wall. However, it was diagnosed as ventral hernia because of an enlargement of the tumor due to abdominal pressure. Both CT and ultrasonographic findings revealed that the tumor was running between the right and left straight muscles of abdomen and reached to beneath the skin. A diagnosis of midline ventral hernia was made. During operation herniation of preperitoneal fat from the white line was found, associating with no hernial sac. Preperitoneal fat was excised and the right and left straight muscles of abdomen were sutured and repaired. In this paper this case as well as 27 cases reported in the Japanese literature are reviewed.
