To improve sabo facilities and warning and evacuation systems, it is important to understand the distribution of rainfall in mountainous basins.
This study elucidated the spatial properties of rainfall in the Mt. Rokko area. First, to understand the properties of rainfall according to basin and rainfall types, we have analyzed data obtained by rain gauges. Then, to understand the detailed properties of rainfall in basins, we have analyzed data collected by densely placed X-band multiparameter radar and rain gauges.
We have found that precipitation increased with altitude in the basin. In addition, the Arima and Funasaka areas received the most precipitation during a typhoon and heavy rainfall events. Our study have suggested that detailed rainfall distribution data can be obtained using X-band multiparameter radar.
