Localized torrential rainfall often cause heavy rainfall disasters in a small river channel. To prevent these disasters, Japanese government recently installed network of X-band Multi Parameter radars (X-MP radars) over near urban areas in Japan. X-MP radar is suitable to realize earlier and more detailed detection of the baby rain cell, because X-MP radar has higher sensitivity and spatial resolution. In this study, using the 3-D volume scanning information from the X-MP radar, we calculate five indicators (Increment of rain top height, velocity of vertical development, vertical integrated reflection intensity, vorticity and convergence). Then we identify the “torrential rainfall index” by integrating five indicators on the basis of fuzzy logic and the warning level of torrential rainfall cell by cell. Using the algorithm to detect and trace the movement of rain cell (nakakita et al.,2011), we develop a system which indicate the dangerous rain cell on a monitor by circle in real time.
