We investigated the effect of sea surface temperature, topography, and initial and boundary conditions (hereafter IC and BC) on heavy rainfall occurred in northern Kyushu area on July 5th in 2018 using Weather Research and Forecast model (WRF). We found that high resolution SST by MODIS satellite data improved accumulated precipitation. On the other hand, the effect of high resolution topography data provided by Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, which are 10 m higher than low resolution counterpart in Kyusyu area was not as significant as SST. IC and BC differences yielded large discrepancy in rainfall patterns between NCEP final analysis and JMA Meso-Scale Model mainly due to the difference of water vapor concentration in troposphere.
