Improving the ability of river water to flow down in small and medium-sized rivers is a major issue. In river improvement for the purpose of solving this issue, little attention is paid to environmental and maintenance aspects of rivers, and there are few cases of the latter in particular. In this study, we introduce an example of using distributed drop works made of natural stones in construction work to expand the width of a small river flowing through a city. And the effects of this construction on the environment and maintenance of rivers were also verified.
As a result, it was confirmed that the construction of the distributed drop works reduced the sedimentation and vegetation on the sand bar, and the effect of the maintenance of rivers was confirmed. Furthermore, diversification of benthic fauna was observed after the construction, and a high effect was also confirmed on the restoration of river ecosystems.
