Abstract
The author conducted a questionnaire survey to the first and secondary grades of lower secondary school students in Fukuchiyama City related to find their cognition about flood and earthquake disasters. He found that they are scared earthquake than flood though flood disasters have been occurred frequently. Also, the author points out the students almost don’t have trigger and causes of earthquake disaster. Science classes in elementary and lower secondary schools might increase the number of students who had scientific idea. Some students have an idea that floods are relating to heavy rain. To improve disaster education in this area, science classes should be reexamined in terms of understanding phenomena in an earthquake and heavy rain as a trigger of flood.
