In this report, we review the background and results of a study on the structure of modern farming household economy by Dr. Sumiko Abe, and explore the methodology of rural life research. The features of Dr. Abe's research are the following two points. The first point is that Dr. Abe worked closely with life improvement extension workers to carry out a survey on a study of modern farming household economy. The issue arising from this feature is that it is important that research is linked to practice. The second point is that research was limited to full-time farmers. The issue arising from this feature is that it is necessary to focus not only on full-time farmers but also on other farmers.
